Seriously? Fabulous? LOL! Who wants to wear a rug with tassels? And the bobbles? LOL!
And why is her skin that colour? Overtanned or bad picture? Yikes!
And since she is glowing red, what colour is that poncho exactly??!!
Somebody sure doesn't know how to use Photoshop…LOL

That model just looks … freaky. I’ve never seen anything like it. It almost keeps you from noticing the poncho. Almost.

The stitch is okay, but the colour could be darker, and I’m not at all certain I’d keep the fringe. In fact, I’d consider ditching it in favour of making the front longer.
As for the model, I wouldn’t blame her if she got supremely pissed at what this looked like AFTER the amateur PhotoShop work. . .

OK, her skin looks like she used an off-brand self-tanning cream that turned her brick red instead of burnt orange.
The poncho reminds me of that embossed plastic stuff that the folks who made Contact Paper used to put out in the 70s. We had fake plastic 3-D bricks in the kitchen when I was a kid. Couldn’t stop pressin’ & pokin’ ‘em. I’d press a brick, it would stick to the wall for a bit, then it would pop back out. I’d do this a couple dozen times before I got yelled at.

Why is the fringe so long? Did the crochet-person go, “Oh bugger this! I can’t be bothered doing any more. I’ll stick a long fringe on it and no-one will notice.”?

She looks like an over grown oompa loompa

Lesson One in “Making Your Model Look Bad” 101.
I’m sure her portfolio doesn’t have a copy of this layout.

Looks like someone took the serape off of the loom too soon.

On the actual book, she doesn’t look so odd. She’s African American, and in this picture of the cover, they did some awful stuff with the color.
The poncho, on the other hand… GACK. Bobbles and fringe and fug, oh my!

When I was a kid we used to write LOL for “lots of love”. Now whenever I see it online, it’s what I read it as. Which adds an interesting slant to your post.
I’m not having lots of love for that poncho, however…
And don’t you go that colour if you eat too many carrots?

Just came across your blog and have to say, damn funny!! You are so right, what is going on with that model? And why oh why would anyone want to spend the time making something as ugly as that?

I’m sorry but I see a miss here, a big one. Yes, the poncho sucks a fat one, but the model? The photo is a little bit over-saturated, giving her skin a slight reddish cast that the photographer or layout designer should have caught. But a tan…?
Did everyone else here fail to notice that the model is black?
Her skin is dark brown naturally, and again, a minor saturation problem gave it a reddish cast.
So let’s not pick on the poor woman, eh?

Too many bobbles make any design look fugly, but why are they still publishing poncho patterns? Do people still make and wear them?

Believe it or not ponchos are still the rave here in New York and there is a demand for them and also the capelets..

OH! Look satan is a woman and this what she wears to make HELL even worse!!!

If the fringe wasn’t so long this one might not be so bad. also i think the body should be longer as well.

I have this book and they are mostly fabulous ponchos. I will never understand why they always take the ugliest pattern and put in the cover (well, it’s not THE ugliest, there are one or two worse ones in the book but they are mostly pretty terrific)
